Who it suits
Lingual braces suit cases that need fixed treatment but not a visible one. Dr. Mashaly confirms whether they fit your case at the consultation.
How it works

Photographs, a scan, and a conversation about what your bite needs.

Brackets are bonded to the back of the teeth, where nothing shows from the front.

The wire is adjusted every 4 to 8 weeks until the bite is right.

Once the bite is right, a retainer is fitted the same day the braces come off.
How long it usually takes
Most treatments run 12 to 24 months. You get an estimate for your own case at the consultation, after we take the records.
The first week
- Your tongue meets the brackets first. Soreness at the tip is common in the first week or two.
- A lisp on some sounds at the start. It fades as your tongue learns the new shape.
What to avoid
- Biting straight into hard food. Cut apples, carrots and bread first.
- Sticky sweets and chewing gum, which pull at brackets you cannot see.
- Pressing your tongue into the brackets to explore them. It keeps the soreness going.
