How long you wear it
Wear time depends on the appliance: some are worn only at night, others most of the day. You get the exact schedule when it is fitted.
The first week
- A new appliance feels large for the first few days. Speech and swallowing settle within about a week.
- More saliva than usual at the start. It passes.
What to avoid
- Hard and sticky food while a fixed appliance is in place. It bends wires and loosens bands.
- Adjusting, trimming or bending an appliance at home.
- Hot water on a printed appliance. Heat changes its shape and it stops fitting.
The design
Every printed appliance is drawn to fit, not picked off a shelf.
This one takes shape on the scan of a patient's own lower arch, fitted tooth by tooth before it is ever printed.
