The first week
- A few days of slightly altered speech with a new removable retainer.
- A retainer that suddenly feels tight usually means it has been left out too long. Tell us rather than forcing it.
What to avoid
- Wrapping it in a napkin. That is how most retainers end up in the bin.
- Hot water, boiling and the dishwasher. Heat warps the plastic out of shape.
- Wearing a cracked retainer, or bending a loose wire back yourself. Bring it in instead.
- Stopping because the teeth look straight. Teeth keep drifting for life.
